Summary:
This study identified AMR genes in litter and soil of the poultry farms of Kathmandu Valley. The samples were tested for the growth of bacteria and its resistance pattern using various antibiotics. Molecular detection of multiple resistant genes viz. erm, mecA and tet was done using PCR. The presence of bacteria indicated that the poultry litter and soil serve as a reservoir of pathogenic AMR bacteria and genes facilitating their spread to humans through the food chain, posing a significant public health risk.
